Steel Magnolias

AMC Southdale 16 | Aud. 11 | Seat F8

Even though I went to high school in the town where this was filmed, I had never actually seen Steel Magnolias. With Dolly Parton's passing, I didn't want to miss the chance to watch it on a big screen. The film feels like something we don't get much of any more. It's hard to describe, but it feels like a film less concerned with winning prestigious awards or being a blockbuster hit. It almost feels a bit like a made-for-TV movie, but with actually good writing. After I got out of the theater I called my mom to tell her I had watched it, and even cried in one of the scenes. She immediately asked me "The funeral scene?" Apparently Sally Field's monologue in that scene is very well known!
